Getting Married in Santorini From Canada
The documents, the Greek Consulate route and the real prices for Canadian couples — from the planners who file the papers.
The short answer
Canadian citizens can legally marry in Santorini with three documents each — a full birth certificate with both parents' names, a single-status letter, and a stamped affidavit of single status — all translated into Greek. Documents from Canada carry no apostille, so they are stamped and translated only by the Greek Embassy or Consulate. Packages start at €950; we handle the licence and the Town Hall.

The Documents You Will Need
For Canadian citizens
- Full birth certificates (with both parents' names inside), translated into Greek
- Single status letter or letter of no impediment (one for each of you), translated into Greek
- Affidavit of single status — we will email you this form for completion, and it must be stamped by the registrar's office
As documents from Canada do not carry an apostille, all documents must be stamped and translated only by the Greek Embassy or Consulate, otherwise the registrar cannot accept them.
Full details, including apostilles and translations, are on the legal documents page. The single-status letter must be issued no more than 3 months before the wedding date.
The Greek Consulate Route
Canadian couples follow a slightly different road from most nationalities: because your documents do not carry an apostille, the stamping and the certified Greek translations are done by the Greek Embassy or Consulate. Alongside the birth certificates and single-status letters, we email you an affidavit of single status for completion — it must be stamped by the registrar's office.
The rest works the way it does for every couple we plan for: everything reaches us by email two months before the date, we confirm it with the municipality, and you are on the island at least two days before the wedding, with one working day after it for the final signature at the Town Hall.

Questions We Hear Most
Is a Santorini marriage legally recognised in Canada?
Yes. Civil marriages conducted in Santorini are internationally recognised as legally binding, and after the wedding the marriage officer sends a certified copy of the marriage certificate to your home country's embassy.
Why do our documents go through the Greek Embassy or Consulate?
Documents from Canada do not carry an apostille, so they must be stamped and translated only by the Greek Embassy or Consulate — otherwise the registrar cannot accept them. We check everything with the registry office before you send the originals.
How far ahead do you need our documents?
We need everything by email two months before the wedding date so we can verify it at the registry office. The single-status letters must be issued no more than 3 months before the wedding, so order them 4–3 months out.
Can we skip the paperwork entirely?
Yes — marry legally at home first, then hold a symbolic ceremony here that looks and feels identical, with no documents, no consulate stamps and no translation costs.
