Best Places to Propose in Santorini
There are some stunning locations to choose from, and it can be hard to pick. Santorini is a main destination for honeymooners, so the island always has love in the air. Planning the details of a proposal here may feel like a challenge — there are simply so many beautiful places. But do not let the details overwhelm you. The most important thing is that your proposal reflects the two of you as a couple, however casual or grand it is.

Proposal Locations in Santorini
Oia Village
The blue domes of Santorini are probably the most iconic part of the whole island, and Oia has some of the best of them, including the famous three blue domes at Agios Spiridonas. The most famous is Anastasis church, just off the pathway before Patisserie Medevio — head down the staircase for a great view. The white buildings set into the cliff are incredibly picturesque. We particularly like the steps leading down to Amoudi on the western side. The Byzantine castle ruins at sunset are also wonderful, though very crowded. For bright, colourful photos, around 8am is best — you avoid both the heat and the crowds.
Anastasi Orthodox Church
A great place to propose, because it has two of the island's most iconic symbols in one frame: the blue-domed church and the flowering bougainvillea tree.
Oia Windmills
There are two windmills on the western side of Oia that draw crowds in the evening — some of the most photographed spots on the island. Watching the sun set behind them is genuinely magical. If you are not after a sunset picture, the spot is far quieter during the day.
Imerovigli Village
If Oia is not your style, or feels too busy, look at Imerovigli. The sunsets are just as beautiful and far less crowded. For a sunset proposal, the best time is about 30 minutes before the sun goes down.
Three Domes Viewpoint
The iconic three domes are one of the best-known landmarks in Oia. They sit on private property, so you can only reach them by booking a hotel or apartment in that area.
Amoudi Bay
A colourful port beneath volcanic cliffs, only a 15-minute walk down from the town of Oia.
Fira
Fira is made up of blue buildings built into the cliffside, which makes for beautiful and unusual views, and there are spots all through the town. The Three Bells of Fira — the Church of Koimisi Tis Theotokou — is best known for its blue dome, its three bells and its view. It is not the easiest place to photograph, but the wall behind the church makes a lovely place to propose.
Skaros Rock
Skaros was one of the original five settlements of Santorini. Take the short hike up from Imerovigli for stunning views that set the stage for an epic proposal. Perched on the cliff edge below Skaros is the Panagia Theoskepasti chapel, with its iconic blue dome and bell.
Private Places to Propose in Santorini
Maybe you are looking for something more intimate, or something simple and creative. Finding a spot that is private, quiet and intimate can be a challenge here, but these are a few ideas to start from.
- Cater a private dinner and celebration at a luxury villa.
- Rent a scooter, a motorcycle, or even a boat, and cruise around until you find the perfect spot.
