Pick a time of year and a date
Santorini's warm, dry season lasts from April to October; the cooler, rainy season runs November to March. Summer is the busiest time to visit, so keep that in mind if you are considering a summer wedding — travel and accommodation cost more with the influx of visitors. It is still very possible to find places to stay away from the crowds, and venues in areas with fewer tourists.
Hire a local Santorini wedding planner
If you are going to spend money on anything, spend it on a local planner. Whether or not you are having a legal ceremony and need guidance on Greek marriage law, a planner who knows the island helps immensely. Especially for a destination wedding where you cannot revisit your venue, it is invaluable to have somebody local: they book activities for you and your guests, find vendors, and take a great deal of stress off your shoulders.
Choose between a legal and a symbolic ceremony
Decide whether you want to go through the process of a legal wedding ceremony in Greece, or keep it simple with a symbolic ceremony. You can absolutely still say your vows and hold a unity ceremony if you choose symbolic rather than legal.

If you choose a legal ceremony, start researching the Greek marriage licence as early as you can — the process takes a while. This is where a local planner who knows exactly what to do is most useful.
Pick a Santorini wedding venue
Now the fun part. There are a great many venues that make it hard to choose just one. Read reviews, ask your planner for advice, and find one that either has accommodation you and your guests can use, or is close to good places to stay.
Choose your wedding reception

Deciding who to invite is often one of the hardest parts of wedding planning, but it is a little easier with destination weddings — not everyone will be able to take time off and fly out. Invite the people who would mean the most to you on the day, and who can make the trip.
Book travel and accommodation
Book flights, transport for your guests, and lodging. Santorini is full of resorts, hotels and villas, so you will not struggle to find somewhere. Bonus points if you book accommodation where you and your guests can all stay together and celebrate before and after the wedding.
Plan your activities and timeline
You are making the trip all the way to Santorini, so fill it with things you will remember. Book a catamaran cruise for everyone, watch the sunset near Oia Castle on your last night, or go wine tasting at one of the island's wineries.
Celebrate
Once the hard work is over it is time to celebrate. We recommend staying in Santorini as long as you can — at least a week or two — to get the full experience without any rush.
